Artist-formulated clay body using clay from Puebla, Mexico; artist-formulated glazes with oxides; reduction-fired. 2.8 × 5.7 × 3.3 in each

Before moving abroad, I gave these cups to my mother, my grandmother, and my aunt. Made with clay from Puebla, Mexico, where I had lived, they carry a shared place of origin into the daily lives of the women in my family. Their fish-bird form brings together water and flight, connecting my personal imagery of femininity and emotional life with migration. The cups share a common shape, while their glazed surfaces differ.

I imagined drinking coffee or tea as a gesture that could mirror itself across separate homes—a way of remaining connected without being together. Through their distribution and possible everyday use, the cups explore how an object can sustain belonging across distance.
